sitka alaska fishingSpring has officially arrived here at Alaska’s Big Salmon Lodge, which signifies that the upcoming summertime Sitka Alaska fishing season is only weeks away! Whether you’re planning your first family fishing trip or you’ve been traversing these serene waters for decades, there’s nothing quite like the anticipation of a Sitka Alaska fishing expedition. While you eagerly count the days leading up to your week of world-class fishing, remember to bone up on the area and start meticulously planning your journey to The Last Frontier. Here’s a quick guide on what to expect this summer here at Alaska’s Big Salmon Lodge.

What to Bring

As a reminder, all of our Sitka Alaska fishing packages include lodging, all meals, fish processing, airport pickup, unlimited fishing, and, of course, all tackle, bait, and gear. Most anglers pack light and return home with a hefty haul of salmon, halibut, and rockfish. And remember to be prepared for anything – you can always take layers off when you’re out at sea. Here is a short list of things to bring along for your world-class, self-guided Sitka Alaska fishing expedition:

  • Extra layers of clothes (raingear and boots will be provided)
  • Warm, grippy gloves
  • Brimmed hats
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Waterproof camera
  • Scopace (pills) or Transderm (the patch) for seasickness

What to Expect

We’re located on jaw-dropping Middle Island, which is surrounding by beautiful island chains and the vast Pacific Ocean. There are two main fishing options here at Alaska’s Big Salmon Lodge: guided charters and self-guided Sitka Alaska fishing. It’s important to be fully aware of your ability to operate all tackle, gear, electronics, and safety equipment if you’re planning on embarking on a self-guided Sitka Alaska fishing trip. For most anglers, using this equipment and technology is a piece of cake. All of our self-guided fishing boats seat up to four anglers. We also have a fleet of professional, knowledgeable fishing guides that lead groups of anglers to the best hot spots.
